Objective – To modernise the delivery of entertainment on board by investing in new technology facilitating more and different entertainment, more participation and new functionality.
My role – To work with Peel Talent (entertainment partner) to help develop concepts that would modernise the range of entertainment available on board using technology to:
- Supplement existing resources
- Encourage more customers to get involved
- Create new entertainment venues
- Appeal to families and technology savvy audiences
Note: the delivery of these concepts was completed by Peel Talent.
Solution – New screens were added to Live Room, Venue, Broadway Show Lounge and Pool Deck and additional technology such as voting pads enable the delivery of great new concepts such as:
- Virtual bands from 3 genres of music were filmed and can be played in Live Room or Venue at a moment’s notice – great musicians, creating a memorable ambiance and supplementing the roster of live bands
- Voting pads were introduced to work alongside screens in Venue to deliver game shows that everyone can participate in (not just those on stage).
- Virtual dancing – Anton du Beke compares on board dance classes, with the help of a live professional couple to demonstrate, creating more memorable, celebrity endorsed classes.
- SplashLive! Delivered in high season only, SplashLive! uses screens to create an underwater world that children explore as part of the kids’ club – a fully interactive and immersive experience!
- Pool deck cinema screen – new high definition, high bright screen that is used on the pool deck throughout the day, but also to show movies at night including hosted sing-a-long family classics – a new entertainment venue.
Outcome –Technology enables a cost efficient way of delivering more choice and variety which allows Thomson Cruises to appeal to a wider audience.
