Objective – The marketing of the new ship had promised all brand new shows, which was a big task for the entertainment provider without sacrificing quality. The stage was bigger and more complex functionally and required better sets, more performers, new technology and the audience was newer, more theatre savvy and therefore more demanding than on other Marella Cruise ships.
My role – To work with Peel Talent (entertainment partner) to ensure a range of shows were developed to appeal to the full spectrum of customers on holiday on Marella Discovery from families, to young couples, to more traditional cruise customers.
Note: Peel Talent had full creative control developing new shows.
Solution – A range of 11 shows were delivered including:
- “Legends Live”: a cutting edge show where live bands, dancers and singers perform alongside legendary singers like Prince, Amy Winehouse and Freddy Mercury.
- “Beatz Interactive”: a contemporary more percussion based show featuring LED costumes and audience participation.
- “Homeward Bound”: a classic, musical story using Simon and Garfunkel hits.
- “Animated Classics”: a song and dance spectacular featuring family favourite hits from animated films such as Happy Feet.
- “Medieval Madness”: a modern pantomime style show.
Outcome – A full spectrum of shows were developed and these are being honed based on customer feedback over the first year of operation, but certainly represented a step change in entertainment on board Marella Cruises.
